Terri D. Fisher

After earning her Ph.D. in experimental/developmental psychology at the University of Georgia, Terri Fisher joined the faculty of Ohio State Mansfield, and stayed for 33 years. Dr. Fisher has conducted research on various aspects of sexual behavior and gender issues and has been the recipient of several research awards for this work. For many years, she primarily examined the extent and impact of parent-child communication about sexuality, but more recently, her research has focused on the role of the research context, societal expectations, and gender stereotyping on gender and personality differences in reports of various aspects of sexual behavior.

In addition to numerous peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Fisher is the co-editor of three books: Handbook of Sexuality-Related Measures (Routledge, 2011; 2020), Speaking of Sexuality: Interdisciplinary Readings (Oxford University Press, 2010), and Current Directions in Human Sexuality and Intimate Relationships (Pearson, 2010). Fisher is a Past-President of the Midcontinent Region of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS), a SSSS Fellow, and a Consulting Editor for The Journal of Sex Research. Dr. Fisher retired from Ohio State in 2015, moved to the Chattanooga area, and is now a member of the psychology department at The University of the South in Sewanee, TN.
