Teacher Professional Development

What Makes Us Different

Math Camp

Teachers enter the program through a summer leveled course structure in Mathematics Literacy Initiative (MLI) pedagogy (based on Bob Moses’ Algebra Project), with a focus on developing mathematical thinking, student and teacher content knowledge and collaborative classroom culture.

This is followed by two days of group lesson study planning. An experienced MLI teacher conducts the lesson study during the district’s summer Math CAMP (Collaborative Applications of Mathematics Pedagogy). During lesson study, participants observe students’ mathematical thinking and possible revisions to the lesson. All lessons are then uploaded to the MLI repository.

During the following school year, participants join cohorts to attend monthly inter-district professional development workshops which include one inter-district lesson study per semester.

Teachers typically follow the program for three years. Selected teachers may progress in the fourth year to Math Teacher Leader status in their school building.
