Testing Services

The Conard Learning Center (CLC) now provides test proctoring services both for Ohio State students who would like to take EM (credit by exam) tests and for students from any college or university in the nation that need a professional proctor for exams given in their online courses.

The Testing Center is an approved member of the National College Testing Association (NCTA), which means we follow the NCTA's Professional Standards and Guidelines.

CORRESPONDENCE TESTING AND PROCTORING SERVICES

The CLC Testing Center participates with many institutions of higher learning as a Correspondence Exam testing center in both computer-based and paper-based formats. Prospective candidates should contact their host institutions to verify this location as acceptable for proctoring.

Registration and Exam Fee

Correspondence administration fee: $25 per hour payable to The Ohio State University by check, money order, or cash on the day of the exam. (Do not pre-fill the amount as it is based on the amount of time you use)

Candidates should have their host institution send exam materials to the Testing Center before scheduling an exam. To find out if your exam materials have been received by the Testing Center, email Andrew Mueller or call 419-755-4133.

Bring these items to your appointment:

  • Registration confirmation
  • Valid form of ID: Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, state or federal ID)
  • School ID (if required)
  • Permitted exam aides: Calculator, textbooks, etc.
  • Valid form of payment: Check or Cash

EM TESTING

(Credit by Examination)

  • Registration: Conard Learning Center.
  • EM Test fee for credit: $65 (payable to Ohio State during the registration process).
  • EM Test fee where no credit can be earned: $20 (for courses such as Math 1050 and Math 1075)
  • EM Test fee for Veterans Administration: None
  • If registering for an EM test you must first meet with an advisor and be referred to the CLC Testing Center.
  • If a requisite is listed for an EM Test, you may have to provide written evidence of meeting that requirement.
  • If your EM Test requires a departmental referral please make sure it is obtained before scheduling a test. No refunds provided.
  • If you are beginning your first semester at Ohio State, you may not complete EM Tests until the first day of class.
  • EM Tests are offered for currently enrolled undergraduate students. Graduate students are ineligible to receive credit for an EM Test, but EM Tests may be used for placement into higher-level courses. Please consult your academic advisors if you are unsure about eligibility.
  • EM Tests are offered year-round, including academic breaks.
  • EM Tests are not repeatable.
  • Receiving a mark (U, W, any grade, etc.) for a course makes students ineligible to take the EM Test for that course.
  • You may take EM Tests for courses that you are currently enrolled up through the first Friday of the semester of enrollment in the course. If you wish to take EM Tests for courses in which you are enrolled after the first Friday of the semester, you must first drop the course. This enrollment restriction does not apply during academic breaks.

Bring to your appointment:

  • Referral or written proof of eligibility to complete the test, if required.
  • Permitted testing aides: Calculator, ruler, etc.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • All examinees must arrive at the Testing Center on time. The Testing Center has the discretion to deny access to latecomers. Failure to appear forfeits your test registration fee.
  • Cell phones are strictly prohibited inside the testing rooms. Cell phones must be turned off in backpacks or purses and may not be accessed during exam periods.Any examinee found using a cell phone, including the phone ringing or vibrating, may be dismissed and may be reported to the Committee on Academic Misconduct.
  • Possession of any other electronic or recording device is also prohibited, including any photographic, recording, or communication devices.
  • Any aids not authorized by the instructor are prohibited inside the testing rooms.
  • Students must adhere to all policies set forth by the Code of Student Conduct. Violations of the Code of Student Conduct or any Testing Center policy will be reported.
  • Students with disabilities who need special accommodations must request these while registering for the exam.
  • You should arrive at the testing center 15 minutes before your scheduled examination start time
  • Upon arriving at the Testing Center you will sign in at the front desk with the time, your test, and then print and sign your name. You will show a valid photo ID confirming your identity. You will store your belongings in a room separate from your testing room.
  • You may not leave the testing area during the test time to take a break.
  • Unauthorized possession, reproduction, recording, discussion, reconstruction of content from memory, or disclosure of any materials, including, but not limited to, examination questions before, during, or after an examination or other certification activities is a violation of OSU policy, specific testing policies and federal copyright laws. Failure to comply may result in the invalidation of examination results, exclusion from future examinations, revocation of certification, or any sanction deemed appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the University. Any clothing such as sweaters worn into the testing room must be worn at all times while testing or placed in the provided room. You must conduct yourself in a courteous manner at all times when on the premises of the Testing Center. Weapons of any kind are prohibited. All materials issued to you by Testing Center staff must be returned at the conclusion of your examination. This includes scratch paper, pencils, and tissues. Tissues must be discarded in view of Testing Center staff.

  • Tissues not provided by the Testing Center
  • Food & beverages
  • Medicine or cough drops
  • Tobacco products
  • Any other product determined by the staff to be a disturbance to other testers or a threat to the security of the examination
