PSI CHI IS THE INTERNATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY IN PSYCHOLOGY, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. Membership is open to undergraduate students who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests.
Psi Chi was established at the Mansfield during the Autumn 2015 semester, but the society has a long rich history, dating back to 1929. Eligible members must have a GPA of at least 3.0, Psychology GPA of at least 3.0 and be a Psychology major or minor with at least sophomore standing. Membership to Psi Chi is lifetime membership. There is a one-time fee of $60 to join.
Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of both the American Psychological Association and Association for Psychological Science. Psi Chi not only recognizes academic achievement by granting membership in the Society, but also sponsor programs and activities, which augment and enhance the regular curriculum, offer an outlet for service to the campus and the community at large, and provide practical experience and fellowship. The international organization bestows several research awards, sponsors diverse programs at regional and national psychological association conventions and publishes the Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research. In addition, Psi Chi’s Society service projects illustrate the Society’s commitment to its mission of “student excellence, reflected in scholarly and professional growth within psychology and the ability to impact society positively.” More information about the benefits of Psi Chi at the following website: psichi.org.
