English Internship

HOW YOU CAN GET INTERNSHIP CREDIT

The English department encourages all of our students to pursue internship opportunities that will help them determine their professional interests and goals. Students can earn credit toward their English major for both paid and unpaid internships. Begin by consulting with English Coordinator Cynthia Callahan at callahan.138@osu.edu to discuss the kinds of internships that qualify for credit toward the major. Then contact Internship Program Coordinator, Alicia Camak, for help finding an internship, or seek out your own! After you've identified an internship, you will need to coordinate with Professor Callahan and with the advising department in the Columbus English department. They will need to know:

  • The name of the organization, name of your supervisor, your supervisor’s phone number and email address.
  • A brief description of your responsibilities
  • The dates of your internship (start and end dates)
  • The number of hours you will work during the internship period (35 hours of internship work will earn 1 credit hour of English 5191. You can earn up to 3 credit hours of English 5191 during a single semester. It is possible to do internships over the summer.)

YOU’RE APPROVED!

Once your internship is reviewed and approved for credit, you will be enrolled in English 5191
for the appropriate number of credit hours. 5191 does not meet in person, but you will need to:

  • Maintain a daily internship log that includes the date and number of hours worked and a brief
description of projects worked on during those hours
  • Complete several reading assignments and brief reflection essays
  • Prepare an up-to-date resume and review resume with an English department representative
  • Secure an evaluation from your internship supervisor
