Each day brings a new task for Larry Stimpert, the campus facilities manager for Ohio State Mansfield. Depending on the season, he could be coordinating snow and ice removal, lawncare or structural improvements to buildings.
Stimpert has overseen campus facilities since 2004 and said one of the things he enjoys most is the variety.
“I get to experience something different every day, and I oversee a strong team of employees. I also get to work close to where I live, which allows me to be active with family and the family farm.”
Stimpert’s family raises beef cattle, hogs, sheep, and they also grain farm in Richland and Ashland counties. When he has time, he enjoys making trips to the Campus Recreation Center, where he exercises alongside students and catching up on student life.
“The students are enjoyable to talk to and I like hearing what’s on their minds,” he said. “As a facilities manager, I offer a different perspective than some of their professors, so I enjoy our conversations.”
Stimpert earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Franklin University and is always trying to find new ways to help the campus operate more efficiently. Over the years, he helped replace lighting on campus, making it more efficient and less costly to operate.
