Makena Northcutt - As a current sophomore here at The Ohio State University at Mansfield, I can confidently say that this university has helped facilitate my journey in numerous ways. Receiving scholarships, for one, has shaped my academic journey in such a positive way. They have offered me invaluable support both personally and professionally. As a student, scholarship assistance means the opportunity to focus on my studies without the burden of financial stress, allowing me to fully immerse myself in everything happening on campus. As an Early Childhood Education major who wants to become a teacher and then a principal- my time is pivotal to my success. Without the scholarship that I received, I would've been faced with the challenge of working and going to school full-time to pay tuition. Although this is many students' realities, I am grateful that I have been given this opportunity.
The impact of these scholarships has extended beyond the classroom. For example, I have been privileged enough to participate in the Student Research Frenzy here on campus where I educated my peers on MRKH (Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome). I also was able to be a part of Homecoming Court in Fall of 2023, whereas if I was working full-time, it would not have been an option for me. Another instance where financial help from the campus played an important role was when I was having car problems. This past winter, my car was not working, and the funds helped me fix it without having to worry about the hefty costs. I commute to campus, so having a reliable car is a necessity! The added sense of relief allowed me to attend classes without worrying so much about my car.
As a proud Buckeye at Mansfield, my favorite part is the tight-knit community and wonderful professors and faculty here. The scholarship I had the honor of receiving not only opened doors for me but also made me feel prideful in myself and like I belong at Ohio State!
