Dr. Kolkovich researches the literature and culture of 16th and 17th century England. Specific interests include women writers, the history of reading, and Shakespeare and other Renaissance drama in text and performance. To write her first book, The Elizabethan Country House Entertainment, she searched archives for evidence of pageants that men and women staged when Queen Elizabeth I visited their houses. She is now writing a book about pageantry inserted in Shakespeare’s plays, editing poems by the 17th century writer Hester Pulter, and researching the literary activities of the influential Stanley family. Dr. Kolkovich welcomes students interested in pursuing their own research projects on English Renaissance literature, either as independent studies or as work toward a research thesis.
