Richland Academy of the Arts will offer free guitar lessons this summer, expanding access to music education through a community-driven initiative launched at The Ohio State University at Mansfield and now available in partnership with community volunteers. The program features instruction from volunteer musicians, including some of the region’s most accomplished guitarists.
The Community Guitar Workshop is a free, welcoming space to pick up a guitar and start playing. Whether you’ve never touched an instrument or already know a few chords, you’ll learn through live demonstrations, guided practice, and a casual Q&A setting designed to keep things relaxed and fun.
There is no pressure and no commitment. Each session stands on its own, so you can drop in whenever it works for you. It’s less like a formal class and more like a group of people learning, playing, and figuring things out together.
Bring your own guitar if you would like to participate during the interactive in-class sessions. Please email das.409@osu.edu if you need help restringing and tuning a personally-owned guitar. You can reserve a guitar though the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library.
Each session features a different instructor, giving participants the chance to learn from a variety of music styles, so every class feels fresh, engaging, and inspiring. No matter your experience level, you’ll receive personalized guidance and leave with practical tips to help you develop your own unique playing style and take your playing to the next level.
