The Ohio State University at Mansfield Holds Graduation Celebration for Class of ‘17

Mansfield, OH – A graduation celebration was held at The Ohio State University at Mansfield campus on Thursday, May 4, 2017. In total, 93 students earned their bachelor and master degrees and 103 earned Associate of Arts degrees.

The Ohio State University at Mansfield Dean, Dr. Stephen Gavazzi welcomed the students along with friends and family during the ceremony at Founders Auditorium. He beamed with pride as he spoke to the graduates, “You are our graduates, our students that started here at The Ohio State University at Mansfield. You come from all over to take advantage of the education here at OSU-Mansfield, and you have done it.” He continues, “You were shaped and molded by our esteemed faculty and staff members.”

Martha Rogers, a training programs manager at Pocared Diagnistics, Inc. in Columbus, was the keynote speaker. She told students to take every opportunity that comes their way. Rogers earned her Bachelor of Science degree in early and middle childhood education from The Ohio State University at Mansfield in 1985 and a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from the Columbus campus in 2002. She tells the graduates, “Grab every opportunity. What will you do with the rocks in your path? Will you kick them to the side or pick them up? I suggest your pick each and every one of them up. Take every opportunity in your path.”

Reann Lillard, who obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in social work, says the entire experience is bittersweet, “I am sad to say goodbye but glad we were all able to accomplish it together on the OSU-Mansfield campus.” She continues, “I loved coming to OSU-Mansfield. I like that it is a smaller campus and the professors are passionate about what they do and can guide you through the years to get your diploma.”

Another graduate, as well as a Buckeye Ambassador, Brenna Truax stands with her twin sister Dianna. The sisters have reached the finish line together. Brenna is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English while Dianna is graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Brenna says, “I do not think the fact that I have graduated has hit me just yet. After tonight, when I go home and think about it for a minute, I will think back at my time at The Ohio State University at Mansfield and realize what I have accomplished.”

The graduates officially received their diplomas at a ceremony in Columbus at the Ohio State University on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
