Your First Week

Convocation

The official welcome for new students. The day before Autumn courses begin, freshman and transfer students gather in Founders Auditorium to begin their college career together as Buckeyes. Students hear from current students, Dean Gavazzi, and other faculty, staff, and administration.  The Dean's Picnic directly follows the Convocation. Students mix, mingle and eat with their fellow classmates and members of the campus community.

2014 Programs

Buckeye Book Community

First year students complete their first college assignment through a shared reading experience and visit from the author. This year the book selection is The Submission by Amy Waldman.

Learning Community

The Buckeye Learning Community allows first year students to get involved in a variety of activities that start the summer before classes start and continues throughout the academic year. The program will provide you with a support system of faculty and staff who were first generation college students, a network of other first generation college students, and the opportunity to uniquely shape your curriculum to fit your strengths.

Success Series

The Success Series complements the required EXP1100 course by addressing transitional challenges new students face. Seminars are conducted by campus experts, community leaders, and well-known personalities to help students transition smoothly into college life and make the most of their time at Ohio State.
