Vocal Music Requirements

Students applying for a Goodman Scholarship in music normally should have participated in their high school choral music programs, which will permit them to submit a letter of recommendation from their choral director. The student is also asked to supply a resume of his/her musical experiences both inside and outside of school. Finally, the student is asked to come to campus for a brief interview, which will include the opportunity to sing two contrasting songs, demonstrating different musical styles. Normally this can be done during the student orientation day selected by the student, although it can be done at another time. The student needs to bring sheet music for each song. Ohio State Mansfield will provide the accompanist. A cappella singing is not permitted.

The contact person to whom materials should be sent is Dr. David Tovey, Associate Professor of Music, tovey.2@osu.edu. He can also be reached at 419-755-4264 (office) or 419-709-0244 (cell). Dr. Tovey should also be contacted to set up an interview time for the scholarship process.
