This winter quarter the Pearl Conard Art Gallery will feature CONFLUX, an exhibition of 25 artists from around the world who work at the intersection of art, technology, and science. The exhibition will celebrate cross-disciplinary approaches to research by including mechanized dioramas, bio art, digital imaging, rapid prototype sculptures, animation, interactive web sites, electronic literature, and experimental sound art.
Among the participating artists is Jalila Essaïdi, a Dutch artist who collaborated with the Forensic Genomics Consortium Netherlands to create a ‘bulletproof’ skin, exploring the social, political, ethical and cultural issues surrounding safety in a world with access to new biotechnologies. Raphael Perret, an artist based in Zürich, Switzerland, will travel to our campus and present the sculptural artifacts of a multidisciplinary research project dealing with the materialization of human movement within space. Pete Froslie, Assistant Professor of Art and Technology at the University of Oklahoma, will exhibit several works, including a textual adaptation of War and Peace created with custom software that inputs text and rewrites it using entries from a thesaurus. Israeli artist Nadav Assor will display digital video acquired from an eye-tracking camera rig, such as is normally used for psychology and market research. This exhibition, the first of its kind at The Ohio State University Mansfield, will run from January 19th – March 2nd, 2012. We would greatly appreciate your attendance at any point during the opening. |
