Dear Ohio State Mansfield Colleagues,

This bi-weekly report is a bit "heavy" on names and dates so that members of the campus
community can be reassured that a number of important information channels are being
developed about various strategic planning activities pertaining to our campus. In the event
that you have any questions about these efforts, please do not hesitate to contact me or
one of the individuals connected to those activities as described below.

As a follow up to consultation received from the Executive Committee, I am pleased to
report that Dawn Kitchen has agreed to provide leadership in terms of updating our Pattern
of Authority {POA) document. While the committee membership will include both faculty
and staff members, portions of this committee's activities- including most notably the
workload flexibility issue- will be handled by a subcommittee comprised of faculty
members only. Dawn will be contacting members of the campus community in the next
couple of days or so in order to finalize the composition of the POA document committee.

The Executive Committee also provided guidance regarding the formation of a committee
to handle the updating of our Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) document. It
was agreed that the program coordinators would comprise the APT document committee.
At present, the program coordinators are: Mollie Cavender (History), Norman Jones
(English), Terri Fisher/Dennis Shaffer (Psychology), Mary Jo Hawk (Social Work), Gary
Kennedy (Math), Margaret Hersman/Terri Bucci (Education), and Joe Holomuzki (Lab
Science). In addition, the "at large" faculty members not currently attached to program
coordinators were given the opportunity either to be connected with the present
coordinators or be part of new groups that might form around Social Sciences/EHE and Arts
& Humanities. I am pleased to note that Dawn Kitchen has agreed to serve as the Social
Sciences/EHE program coordinator, and that Steven Joyce has agreed to serve as the Arts &
Humanities program coordinator. Please note that, because our next program coordinator
meeting is scheduled for Thursday October 13th from 12:10 to 1:00 p.m., I will use a small
portion of our time together in order to formally charge the program coordinators as
members of the APT document committee.

Work also soon will begin on the creation of our Campus Implementation Plan (CIP) as a
direct response to the Regional Campus Cluster Strategic Plan {RCCSP). The Executive
Committee indicated that the original Strategic Planning Committee- who both provided
initial feedback on the draft RCCSP document and, to a certain extent, served as
representatives of our campus to the first ever Regional Campus Cluster faculty and staff
meeting hosted this past summer at the Ohio State Marion campus- will be charged with
the task of creating our CIP. Shelly Minck will be in touch soon with members of that group
in order to convene a next meeting. In the meantime, the Regional Deans will be getting
together on Thursday October 2ih in order to solidify plans for further refinement of the
RCCSP as a prelude to the CIP work on each campus, as well as specifying deadlines for the
work to be completed.

The first Ohio State Mansfield Board meeting of the new academic year will be taking place
on Friday October 2st, and several meetings already have been set regarding the four core
committees that feed into this meeting's contents. As these meetings are being scheduled,
specific faculty and staff members are being invited to attend as part of their current
committee and position responsibilities. To date, we are anticipating that Brian White
(representing Facilities), Mike Collura (representing the Information Commons), and
Heather Tanner (representing the Library Committee) will attend the Facilities and Planning
Committee meeting on Thursday October 13th, Rodger Smith (representing University
Relations) and Susan Delagrange (as one of the at-large Executive Committee members) will
attend the External Relations Committee meeting on October 19,th and Carol Freytag
(representing Finance) and Norman Jones (representing the Budget and Compensation
Committee) will attend the Finance Committee meeting on October 215
t. While as yet unscheduled, Donna Hight (representing Student Life) and Barb McGovern (representing the Curriculum Committee) are anticipated to attend the next Academic Affairs/Student LifeCommittee meeting.

Again, I encourage you to be in contact with the individuals named above with any and all
questions and concerns that you have about our strategic planning efforts in the weeks and
months ahead. In addition, please remember that the first in a series of informal lunches
designed to create further dialogue about all of these activities is coming up on Monday
October 10th in Ovalwood 323. I hope to see you there!
