E-Mail Guidelines

All Ohio State University faculty and staff receive an OSU Internet username upon employment.   This is used for accessing university e-mail and secure OSU web servers and for submitting grades. This unique identifier takes the form of lastname.#, for example doe.999, which is the OSU Internet Username.  When you add @osu.edu, (e.g., doe.999@osu.edu), it becomes the consistent campus e-mail address.  This should be used in any OSU communication or printed material. If you use a departmental e-mail system you are required to use your OSU Internet username for web-based services such as Traffic and Parking, Human Resources, and other

E-mail

OIT (Office of Information Technology) at the Columbus campus maintains the central campus e-mail system, which uses @osu.edu as the standard form of e-mail address. If you do not want to read your OSU e-mail on the central system, you can forward it to your preferred Internet Service Provider (ISP) or departmental system using the online form at https://acctmgt.service.ohio-state.edu/cgi-bin/FWD1FwdgChg. You can also get your e-mail via web from anywhere in the world at https://webmail.osu.edu/. Webmail offers most of the functionality you expect from an e-mail client, including support for attachments, address books, and folders.

Local assistance with campus e-mail is available through Technology Services or you can call extensions 4376, 4375, 4200, and 4385. Technology Services has several computer specialists who will provide assistance with e-mail.
