Course Objectives: To examine human anatomy on both macroscopic (i.e., gross anatomy) and microscopic (using slides) levels. Plastic models, real organs, a human cadaver, and internet linkages to medical (autopsy) laboratories will be used as tools to facilitate the understanding of human anatomy; to understand the anatomy of the various body systems and to appreciate the relationships between systems; to associate structure with function. That is, to know the role of many of the various cells, tissues, organs and organ systems discussed.
Course Content: An examination of the various systems of the human body (such as the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, circulatory, nervous, digestive, endocrine, urinary, respiratory, and reproductive systems) the parts of these systems, and their location within the body.
Method of Presentation: Typically this course includes three hours of lecture and three hours of lab. Lecture may include use of the chalkboard, overheads, videos, videodisc. Lab includes use of models and preserved specimens, observation of a cadaver, and may include dissection.
Method of Evaluation: Typically this course has included lecture exams, quizzes, and laboratory practical exams. Letter grades.
