Course Objectives: The "small vocal ensemble" course indicates a group of singers from within the University Chorus who rehearse separately on different music; normally small vocal ensembles perform on the same programs as the University Chorus itself, which is why vocal ensemble participants must participate in University Chorus too. (One need not be ENROLLED in University Chorus, but one needs to participate in U.C. if one wants to participate in a small ensemble.
Course Content: Small ensembles can be either single sex groups (M or F) or mixed. Rehearsal times are determined according to the class schedules of the participants. Because rehearsal times are more limited than those of the University Chorus, participants in small vocal ensembles must read music fairly easily. In other words, participation in 2208.02 is intended for individuals with previous choral experience and some degree of vocal versatility. Usually small vocal ensemble participants have sung with Dr. Tovey for at least one previous academic term in University Chorus.
Method of Presentation: Standard choral rehearsal class structures are used.
Method of Evaluation: Evaluation is immediate: you are heard as you learn the music and sing. "The proof is in the pudding!"
