Example Syllabus:

Course Objectives: The aim of the course is to develop in students an understanding and enjoyment of selected works of British literature from the Middle Ages to the present time. Students will have opportunities to enrich their appreciation of the culture of the times.

Course Content: The course will cover English poetry, essays, drama, and fiction. Treasures offered for your enrichment and enjoyment will be works by Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, and Swift; poems by the Romantic poets Wordsworth and Keats and the Victorian poet Browning, fiction by Dickens and Conrad; and selections by such authors as Yeats, Lessing, and Munro.

Method of Presentation: The course will consist of lectures, student presentations, class discussions, and an occasional film.

Method of Evaluation: There will be three midterm exams and a final, each worth 25% of the grade.
