Course Objectives: Students will develop and strengthen their ability to conduct research, compose an analytical project, and present the results of their work to an audience of peers. We will look at the idea of "dividing lines" -- the ways we develop and overcome the "us versus them" mindset.
Course Content: Strategies in analytical thinking and classical rhetoric; linking psychology, personal experience, and current events to discuss human nature and prejudice.
Method of Presentation: Lecture, discussion, computer research, and writing and revision time with consultation.
Method of Evaluation: Graded short homework assignments; a short essay; an analytical project with an editorial and brief presentation. Attendance and Participation.
