Course Objectives: The objective of this course is to describe fundamental concepts of Geology for early Science and non-Science majors. Minerals, rocks, and their origin; land forms and how they are produced; structural features of the Earth's crust.
Course Content: Topics discussed include the materials of the Earth's crust, the processes that produce and modify them, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, Earth's interior, the formation of mountains, and the development of the Earth and its life forms through time.
Method of Presentation: Slide-illustrated lectures supplemented by laboratory activities and at least one field trip (2 2-hr cl, 1 2-hr lab).
Method of Evaluation: Two midterm quizzes (15% each), lab reports (30%), final exam (30%), and participation on course activities (10%).
