Course Objectives: Understand basic theory and principles of persuasive communication. Apply library and Internet research skills. Critically evaluate information obtained through independent research. Analyze an audience and adapt message strategies. Apply and improve expository writing skills. Apply theories and principles of persuasion in written and oral discourse.

Course Content: An exploration of persuasion as a form of discourse.

Method of Presentation: Readings, Lectures, Discussion.

Method of Evaluation: Two examinations. Two major written assignments. One persuasive speech. Several speech analysis papers.
