Course Objectives: To study the properties of carbon-based compounds in natural and made made forms. Major topics include nomenclature, structure, reactions and applications as applied to functional group compounds such as alcohols, hydrocarbons, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and esters. The final third of the course covers proteins, carbohydrates and lipids.
