Prerequisites: 2000 (200) or permission of instructor
Course Objectives: • To introduce students to the historical and contemporary discussions surrounding time-based art • To help students develop technical and conceptual skills for production and critical engagement of time-based art • To assure that student’s develop a primary understanding of the terminology and processes that connect all time-based modes of making.
Course Content: This course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of time-based artwork, using a variety of processes and media. Students explore concepts of sequence, performance, interactivity, motion, process and documentation through video, animation, audio and installation-oriented projects.
Method of Presentation: Lectures, technical demonstrations, student presentations, critiques of artwork
Method of Evaluation: 6 creative projects, including Stop Motion, Sound, Video, Performance, Ephemeral Art, and a Final Project
