Course Objectives: To increase understanding and appreciation for literary works of different types, as they relate to a common theme of the archetypal hero.
Course Content: Reading and discussing mythology and works relating to Joseph Campbell's definition of the Hero Quest. A folder of homework assignments based on reading, as well as 2 short essays.
Method of Presentation: Lecture, discussion, written homework assignments based on reading.
Method of Evaluation: Short responses; archetypal analysis of a film; another analytical paper; attendance and participation.
